SL Week 11

Bears Close The Gap
by Ryan Ratcliffe

With the season coming to a close, every match matters in the last few weeks and some teams are doing their best to make this season memorable for all the right reasons.

One of those is potential "perfect season" team Leopards who stormed past Raptors this week 10-0 with Steve Stockton, Andy Town and Winston Duff all enjoying a great night. However, they didn't leave Victoria in the dust, the second placed team also won 10-0 versus bottom team Cobras with Pete Morley, Keith Mitchell and Martin Thompson letting Leopards know that they're not going down without a fight. Tigers played two games this week after their cancelled match a couple of weeks back. The first of which was an 8-2 loss to Team Hut. Although Mark Trett won two matches for the ferocious Tigers, Charlie Ostapski went unbeaten for Team Hut with teammates Ben Chan and Geoff Mee adding two more each. In their second game against Sparks, they lost 7-3 with star Tiger Craig Lee having a storming night winning all three matches. Super-sub Ian Oakes turned up to help the Tigers out and put in a sterling performance but couldn't stop Sparks's Dave Southall, Ray Worthington and Pete Davies winning two matches each to give them the important victory.

It's incredibly tight in the Superleague Division 2, with three teams all vying it out to win the division for the first time. Front-runners Crusaders recorded a difficult 6-4 win over Wolves. Steve Peach went unbeaten with Crusader captain Pete Rowlinson adding two more but star Wolf Phil Lingwood added two of his own to make life difficult for the pole positioned team. Second placed Blades dropped points however by drawing with bottom team Winsford. Adam Ryder and Jake Styles won two each but with Winsford star man Mark Baker putting in an epic performance and winning all three matches, it hindered their chances slightly but with Blades playing Crusaders in their last match, can they take advantage and claw the points back? Third placed Lemmings gained some ground with a 6-4 win over Hawks, Dave Etchalls went unbeaten for another week and Lemming teammate Gail Johns added two more but Hawk player Matt Lafferty won two of his own to move them upto fourth place.

The Bears got a fantastic win this week in Superleague Division 3, with a 9-1 win over Snakes, Andy Edwards and Bears captain Paul Curley both went unbeaten with Ciprian Mihalche adding another two. Andy Beswick however, didn't let them have a 10-0 by winning one for his team. This win puts them only six points behind front-runners Rangers with a game in hand. Can they overtake them at this crucial stage of the season or have they left it too late? Rangers won 7-3 over Falcons to stay at the top of the table with Andy Woodyatt unbeaten on the night and teammates Tom Doughty and Warren Atkinson adding another two each. In the final match of the week, Vikings beat Kinetics 7-3 to stay in third place. Viking John Roberts won all three of his matches to give his team a safe 9 point advantage over fourth placed Kinetics.
