Mid Cheshire Finals
night - Alf Perry proves age is no barrier
80's something Inspiration , Alf
Perry (photo attached - DSC02748) proved that age is no barrier when
competing against Mid Cheshire's best as he partnered Ray Worthington to
victory in the Vets doubles final over Tony Turner & Winston Duff.
In the Open Singles final ,
defending champion Geoff Cummings beat teammate Andy Town in straights sets
after knocking out top seed Terry Turner in a nailbiting Semi-Final to win
his third singles title in 6 years.
Martin Thompson proved the
master of the doubles events by defending the open doubles title with
partner Tim Turner & also winning the drawn doubles final with the talented
rising teenage star Scott Fletcher.
Winston Duff beat Ray Worthington in the Vets Singles final.
Mark Laffery won the Division 2
singles & Mike McGhee the Division 3 Singles winner.
In the Mike John Memorial Handicap Knockout , Victoria Club beat Manweb
5-3 to win the Knockout competition & earn silverware in their debut
league season.
Yet again , the end of Season
finals night turned out to be a popular evening with great support shown
from fellow players , family & friends.
In the year of the Olympic games
, Table Tennis , an Olympic sport to watch out for this summer was the
winner with players of all age ranges finding success at the Mid Cheshire
Championships.
